Stokesay Court – As the wonderful backdrop for Dog Day 2024 take time to enjoy the beautiful gardens, lakeside walks and setting of Stokesay Court. The house and gardens were built for John Derby Allcroft, a wealthy manufacturer, entrepreneur and philanthropist, who had made his fortune as owner of Worcester-based Dents gloves. Designed by Thomas Harris, the house was at the cutting edge of technology when it was completed in 1892. Equipped with boilers and under-floor heating, it was one of the first private homes in England to be built with integral electric light, powered by steam engines and lead acid batteries.

Behind the imposing Jacobean style façade with its Arts and Crafts detailing, lies a superb interior, notable for its English Oak woodwork, at its most stunning in the central Great Hall. A principle location for the filming of “Atonement”. Imagine you are on the set as you wander around this beautiful garden – but be careful not to follow Kiera Knightly’s plunge into the fountain!

Dog Day Guided Tours of the house will be available. Priced at £10 (payable by cash or cheque please!), they can be booked on the day at The Stokesay Court stand near the registration tent.
